PM applauds Vietnam - Germany relationship

PM Nguyen Tan Dung applauded the fine developments of the Vietnam-Germany relationship during his meeting with German FM Guido Westerwelle in Ha Noi on Saturday.

The two-way trade between the two countries reached US $6 billion in 2010 and many German businesses have been investing in Vietnam.

PM Dung said that potentials for bilateral cooperation still remain vast. He urged both sides to expand trade and investment promotion activities for mutual prosperity.

Both countries should also boost cooperation in education, training, science and technology, and people-to-people exchange, he said.

Vietnam always attaches importance to consolidating and enhancing relations with Germany, the Government chief affirmed.

Praising the outcomes of the talks between Deputy FM Pham Binh Minh and FM Guido Westerwelle, PM Dung hoped that the two countries would actively lift up the bilateral ties to strategic level on the occasion of the German PM’s visit to Vietnam at the end of this year.

PM Dung said that Vietnam always speaks highly of Germany’s role on the international arena, advocates the European country to become a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

For his part, the visiting FM, Guido Westerwelle, stressed Germany’s consistent stance to push the bilateral ties to strategic partnership.       

He said that Germany will strive to implement joint projects agreed by both countries and speed up trade and investment promotion activities.       

Later the same day, PM Dung and FM Guido Westerwelle witnessed the signing ceremony of a number of cooperative agreements regarding Germany’s financial assistance for the construction of the metro line 2 in Ho Chi Minh with total investment capital of €212 million, for vocational training program worth of € 10 million.
